The Souris Petro-Canada (known locally as the Petro or the Esso) is a gas station located within the town, and is one of the first business visible when entering the town from the West. It is owned and operated by Peter and Connie McQuaid.

History[]

The Souris Petro-Canada originated when Peter McQuaid took ownership of the Ultramar which stood on the corner of Main and Church Street in 1985 (The Graphic). There he and his wife Connie opened McQuaid Motors and it remained in that location until 1996 when it was moved to make room for the Esso. The Esso consisted of a convenience store and a three bay garage (The Graphic).

Petro-Canada[]

The Esso was renovated and revamped to become a Petro-Canada in the late 2000s. The Petro-Canada is the only remaining place in town with full-serve gasoline, and touts itself as having the lowest gas prices on PEI. It is said that Peter and Connie have employed over 100 high-school students in their years in busines.
